The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Ethereum and related technologies. The EF is not a company, or even a traditional non-profit. We do not control Ethereum, nor are we the only organization that funds critical development of Ethereum-related technologies. We are part of a large ecosystem of organizations, individuals, and companies that support Ethereum. Our mission is to do what is best for Ethereum’s long-term success. Our role is to allocate resources to critical projects, to be a valued voice within the Ethereum ecosystem, and to advocate for Ethereum to the outside world.
Since 2014, EF has hosted
Devcon, an annual 4-day conference which has become the oldest and most prominent event in the Ethereum community (and arguably the entire blockchain space). The event attracts developers, designers, researchers, creators, and others — many of whom are intrigued by cutting-edge technology, decentralization, privacy/security, free and open-source software, and the potential for Ethereum to change the world for the better. For a look at past Devcon editions and their speakers, see here:
http://archive.devcon.org/. Devcon 7 (aka Devcon Southeast Asia) will take place this year in Bangkok between the dates of 12-15 November.
Community Supporter
We are looking for a person who is passionate about the positive impact Ethereum can bring and and support quality initiatives in Southeast Asia in advance of Devcon.
There will be several aspects to this role:
- Ethereum Ecosystem growth in SEA. We are currently running the
Road to Devcon in the lead up to Devcon to support grassroots community efforts, educational meetups, and other educational initiatives in Southeast Asia. Part of your role will be to research existing initiatives, identify places groups / leaders / contacts for new initiatives, and to help us determine the best way to support these efforts.
- Involving the SEA community in Devcon. We want the SEA community to be involved and represented at Devcon. This would look like having i) having speakers from SEA, ii) giving a physical space for local / regional communities to have representation and raise awareness of their efforts, iii) making the event accessible to these communities through ticket discounts and increased awareness, iv) encourage local communities to collaborate together, and v) increase the number of attendees from Southeast Asai. Your role will be to help us identify and connect with this communities that we want represented at Devcon.
- Assisting with ethSEA. At Devcon 6 in, there was
ETHLatam Bogota the day before Devcon. The event was organized by regional leaders and community members, but was supported heavily by our team. A similar event took place at our team’s other big event
Devconnect, called
ETHGünü, which had similar support by our team. For Devcon 7 in SEA, we expect to support a similar ETH SEA event the day before Devcon. Exact details are TBD, but your support here where possible would be helpful.
- Helping our Global Community prepare for SEA. Devcon will attract people from all over the world. Your role will be helping our team make sure they are informed and prepared to make the most of their visit to the region for Devcon (and before/after if they decide to stay longer). We have lofty goals for Devcon's positive impact on the SEA region, and your task will be to help us achieve this impact in the region.
